Annual Festival
Pentecost Festival / Conference
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.”
(Acts 20:1)
What is the Pentecost ?
Pentecost is a harvest festival celebration celebrated by Christians on an annual basis. It takes place 50 days after the first day of Passover and essentially celebrates God giving Moses and the people of Israel the Law through the Ten Commandments, which established in them, and defined, a clear national identity under God, whilst also teaching them to love God and each other.
When Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven, He encouraged His followers, the Christians, who comprised a group of about 120 people, to remain in Jerusalem and wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Being faithful to Jesus’ calling, these followers heeded the encouragement and actively and expectantly waited for the promised Holy Spirit to come and guide them from that point forward, in the absence of Jesus Christ in the physical state that they had got to know Him so well in.
On the day that Jesus Christ had promised, the following happened:
“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment because each one heard their language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?”
(Acts 20:5-8)
